Mike Evans
Michael Evans is a partner at K&L Gates, concentrating on federal tax legislation. In this capacity, he has worked extensively on various tax bills, including the 2004 JOBS Act and the recent legislation regarding the tax rules for pensions and non-profit organizations. His current clients include Starbucks, the Weyerhaeuser Company, and the American Institute of Architects.
Before returning to the firm in 2003, Mike served as Chief Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee (2001-2002). Evans also served as Tax Counsel and Legislative Director for Senator Max Baucus (1983-1990) and as General Counsel and Democratic Chief Counsel at the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (1993-2000). In addition to tax policy, he concentrates on the legislative process and has written several articles about the process by which federal tax legislation is considered. A recent article in Tax Notes magazine included him as one of six Democratic "New Lobbyist Power Brokers" who are likely "wield newfound influence over the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees."
Evans also was a law clerk to Judge Betty Fletcher of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and previously was an associate and later partner with Preston Gates Ellis & Rouvelas Meeds LLP.
